Children's Book Week May 13th-19th

Children's Book Week is all about celebrating our favorite books, authors, and illustrators.   Truthfully, we don't really need a special themed week to remember what books we love, but it's nice to let the world know how much we all love reading and sharing with others our love of stories and characters. It's what children's librarians do everyday! And we aren't the only ones who love to share books; School Library Journal recently published their own list of favorites: the top 100 best children's titles OF ALL TIME!  In addition, The Children's Book Council has several lists of favorites called the Children's Choices Book Awards.  These lists are voted on each year by kids of all ages.

With so many great titles to choose from, it is definitely tough to just pick one favorite.  On the bright side, GMPL makes it easy for you to make numerous selections to read with your favorite people. Stop by our children's area to check one (or many) out!
You can also celebrate Children's Book Week by writing your own story using some of our favorite author's story starters.  They've given you a few sentences to start with, it's up to you to finish!  Maybe your stories will make the top 100 list some day.
